5 days until the launch of Dermalogica's BioSurface Peel

If you are a Dermalogica Junkie, you will be as excited as I am about the launch of Dermalogica’s first peel – The BioSurface Peel launching in Dermalogica stockists on the 1st September – only 5 days left to wait!

Dermalogica BioSurface Peel

Dermalogica BioSurface Peel

A few weeks ago I attended the press launch of the BioSurface Peel at the Dermalogica Head Office. Sonette, the Comunications Manager from Dermalogica who is also an expert on peels, gave us a very informative and educating talk on the new peel. A chemical peel is different to normal exfoliation in that it has much deeper penetration, you will get visible peeling, stimulation of the skin cells in much deeper layers of the skin and a short treatment time. In short, a chemical peel is a much more aggressive way of treating the skin, the results are also longer lasting.

Dermalogica currently has 3 levels of exfoliation, with the BioSurface Peel being the 4th
•1st Level: Skin Prep Scrub | Daily Microfoliant | Daily Resurfacer | MultiVitamin Thermofoliant (these are your exfoliators you use at home)
•2nd Level: Skin Exfoliation System
•3rd Level: MultiVitamin Power Exfoliation | Exfoliant Accelerator 35 (Professional treatments only)

Dermalogica launches their first chemical peel – The BioSurface Peel

Taken from the Press Release:

“Professional skin care therapists now have a new level of service to offer clients in the form of BioSurface™ Peel, Dermalogica’s first-ever chemical peel, exclusively formulated for use in skin care centres and spas around the world.

This revolutionary four-step exfoliant system is the first range of products to be introduced within Professional Expert Strength, a new line of professional products only available to licensed skin care therapists. BioSurface™ Peel addresses a diverse array of conditions that include reducing skin roughness and the appearance of fine lines as well as helping to treat hyperpigmentation, pseudofolliculitis (razor bumps), and acneic inflammation. This new procedure offers the many benefits of traditional chemical peels, but with little to no post-peel redness or downtime—a huge advantage for consumers.

“Today’s woman is time-deprived, but still cares greatly about her skin health and wants results,” comments Diana Howard, VP of Research and Development and Global Education for Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute. “Since Dermalogica launched more than 25 years ago, its mission has always been to set the industry standard and provide its tribe of professional skin care therapists with the most cutting edge products and treatments so they are best equipped to meet the demands of today’s consumers. The new BioSurface™ Peel will provide consumers with the results they desire without any recovery downtime.”

A peel with no downtime or post peel redness, is that not fantastic?

How can your skin benefit from a peel or a course of peels?
• Dramatically reduces skin roughness
• Minimise fine lines
•Reduce acne breakouts
•Fade epidermal pigmentation (pigmentation in the epidermis/first layer of the skin)

Please note that pre and post peel care is very important. If you are not currently a Dermalogica user I suggest you visit a Dermalogica Skin Care Centre and ask them to prescribe the best products to prime your skin. Post peel your therapist will advise homecare depending on what concern you are addressing. Sun protection is vital after a peel.

I am going for a peel next week and will write another post guiding through the process and what each step is all about.

In connection with the Bio Surface Peel, Dermalogica have launched the #getnaked campaign – because “great skin has nothing to hide”. Such a great campaign as we all know how much we try to hide our skin when we feel it is less than perfect.

{Product Review} Dermalogica's Daily Resurfacer

dermalogica precleanse

I received Dermalogica’s Daily Resurfacer just under 2 weeks ago to test and although I usually like to trial a product for at least 4 weeks before I will write I review on it, I can already see such a marked improvement in my skin that I thought why wait!

I was sceptical about this exfoliator at first because I prefer a more mechanical scrub (apricot kernel, microbeads, rice grains) and Daily Resurfacer falls into the chemical exfoliation bracket due to the Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids it contain but after the first use I found that the pre-soaked ‘sponge’ applicator acted as a slight mechanical scrub so it was a win, win!

Daily Resurfacer is gentle enough to be used daily on your skin, and I used it as part of my nightly cleansing routine. I didn’t feel any tingling at all during the time I have been using it and my skin is already much brighter and smoother. I did however read (last night only) that for best results you can use this in conjunction with Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant. They recommend used the Microfoliant in the morning and the Resurfacer at Night. As I am always on the quest for brighter, glowing skin I will try this an update this post in 2 weeks!

I gave this product 4/5 purely for the cost – if you are on a budget this product only last 35 applications -so just over a month.

Daily Resurfacer is a leave on exfoliator containing hydroxy acids to smooth the skin and Dermalogica’s brightening complex to help even skin tone it also contains hyaluronic acid to help skin retain water and plump up fine lines.

I have really enjoyed this exfoliator so much that I am going to continue to use it on my skin – I have actually just had someone comment on how good my skin is looking.

Key ingredients

Salicylic Acid: resurfaces and stimulates natural exfoliation. Apple Fruit and Sugar Cane: extracts that stimulate cell renewal and cell turnover while gently sloughing surface cells.

Hyaluronic Acid and GAGs: glycosaminoglycans that hold up to 1,000 times their weight in water help to hydrate skin.

Zostera (Seagrass or Eelgrass): contains polysaccharides (sugars) that form a hydration net over skin’s surface that cushions and protects

Dermalogica also have the following great exfoliators in their range:
•Skin Prep Scrub
•Daily Microfoliant
•Gentle Cream Exfoliant
•Multivitamin Thermafoliant
•Exfoliating Face Brush

Product Class: Exfoliator
Size: 35/tin
RSP: R850
Application: After cleansing pat skin dry. Tear open pouch and remove applicator, place over index finger and apply in a circular motion over the face. There is enough product on the pre-soaked applicator that you can go all the way down your neck and onto your décolletage. Wait to dry. Spray your toner, use a booster if necessary, and then moisturise.

June Favourites

Our June Favourites as pictured above:

1. Dermalogica’s Emergency Spot Fix ( Blog post here)
2. TOY Polish in Leather Crush (Blog Post here)
3. Dermalogica PreCleanse Wipes (Blog post here)
4. ESSIE Apricot Cuticle Oil – this is not a new product but I love using it on my cuticles in winter – it nourishes and hydrates while not being too oily)
5. Not a product, but my pedicure at SWANI Spa in Rosebank was incredible (read more here)
6. ESSIE – The Nail Corrector – not being able to drive these last few weeks has left me having to do my own nails which I hate! This pen is brilliant for cleaning any polish that gets onto the skin around your nail – filled with acetone, it also comes with extra nibs and the nibs are perfectly shaped to clean around your cuticles. (My daughter got hold of my pen so the nibs and lid is MIA – will have to replace it!)

What have been some of your favourites this month?

{Product Review} Emergency Spot Fix & PreCleanse Wipes

PreCleanse Wipes

Dermalogica have brought out their incredible precleanse in a biodegradable wipe. Perfect for when you are on the go, especially great to keep in your gym bag or to pack when travelling.

I have been using precleanse for years now, it is the only way my skin really feels clean. i wear a lot of product on my face everyday (sunscreen, primer, foundation, powder) and just using a face wash never makes my face feel clean, nor does it get rid of the build up of product on my skin from a long day. have I must admit, when I first tried the precleanse wipes I was very sceptical. I used them (in bed) after a night out and while the wipe was convenient enough and stopped me from falling asleep at the basin I missed the silky feeling of the actual oil and I couldn’t see how often I would really have the need for them. Fast forward a few weeks and I ended up packing them when I recently went down to visit my parents. Any mom who goes on ‘holiday’ alone with a toddler would know that you barely have time to shower let alone stick to your usual skin care routine. The precleanse wipes were my saviour. I could walk around holding Bella while cleansing my face. What a win. I ended up loving the wipes, and I found them especially great in removing my thick lashings of mascara. (Any thoughts on bringing out eye make up removal pads?!) Dermalogica claim that precleanse “melts away layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual products that build up on skin throughout the day. Add water to transform this hydrophilic (water-loving) formula into a milky emulsion that easily rinses debris from the skin’s surface, allowing your prescribed Dermalogica Cleanser to penetrate even further for professional cleansing results.” and they honestly lived up to their claim, as I said earlier, my skin has never felt cleaner since adding precleanse to my routine.

Breakout Clearing Emergency Spot Fix

Breakout Clearing Emergency Spot Fix forms part of Dermalogica’s newly re-launched Clear Start Range. Clear Start has been created to treat younger, breakout prone skin and educate teens on the importance of looking after their skin.

I had been gifted Emergency Spot Fix from Dermalogica’s Clear Start range after attending their #teensupreme event (see event photos here: #teensupreme) and it couldn’t have been at a better time. My skin has really been acting up the last few weeks, and it completely flared up from the stress of my recent ‘holiday’. Emergency Spot Fix cleared my breakouts within 2 days and I am sure if I had applied it more frequently they would have been clear overnight. Another thing I loved about Emergency Spot Fix was that it didn’t leave a white residue on my skin after it dried like most spot treatments do and I didn’t get the tingle that comes with other spot treatments.

Emergency Spot Fix contains 5% Benzoyl Peroxide as the active ingredient. Benzoyl Peroxide works by reducing the amount of acne causing bacteria in the pores by increasing skin turnover. It is also antimicrobial. It is also formulated with 7 botanicals including Licorice Root Extract (known to fight inflammation and soothe skin irritation) ; Lavender Extract (calming & soothing) ; Tea Tree Oil (antibacterial) and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract/Green Tea Extract (antibacterial and an antioxidant)

Product Class: Treatment
Active Ingredient: Benzoyl Peroxide
RSP: R200
Quantity: 10ml

Gelish Review

As much as I love to experiment with different nail varnish and change my nails weekly, sometimes I need something that is going to last a lot longer and that is why I love Gelish. Gelish paints on like a polish and hardens under the UV lamp like a gel, giving your nails extra strength and your polish longer wear.

I am on day 16 of my manicure and apart from slightly growing out, my nails still look good. The OPI Matte top Coat I used over the Gelish is no longer Matte, but I easily could have reapplied if I wanted to keep the matte look. Most sites who offer ‘home care’ advice for gel nail polish basically tell you to sit pretty and not use your hands – what is the point then of a hard wearing polish?

mani3

Colour: Gelish Black Shadow with an OPI Matte Top Coat

I usually remove my Gelish and have it reapplied fortnightly. Every 6 weeks I like to give my nails a break and I will leave it off for between 3 – 4 weeks. The only reason I give my nails a break is because I love to experiment with different polish brands and colours and as someone who hates manicures I need a break form the fiddly soak off process! It is not necessary to let your nails ‘breathe’ between applications, and as long as you are nourishing your cuticles and have your Gelish removed properly you are doing no harm to your own nails. Please just make sure you go back to your salon and have your Gelish soaked off because if you pick it off you are going to damage your own nails.

If you are going away on holiday, are a mom, or hard on your hands Gelish is perfect for you.

A Gelish overlay (without the manicure) can cost anywhere in the region of R 180 – R250 depending on the salon.
